Agnieszka Kalinowska prepare an experiment in the pilot unit with Orbital Winding Technology at the Technological University Chemnitz, Saxony, Germany, 27 April 2017. With this unit it is possible to produce complex structural components made of fiber-reinforced plastics - for instance rotor blades for small wind power plants or load-bearing car profiles.<br />
Two heads revolve around the component in question and wrap as well as melt a thermoplast tape around the core. Non-circular parts can also be endlessly produced this way. The federal excellence cluster "Technological Fusion of Multifunctional Light-weight Structures" (MERGE) exists since 2012 and it is home to around 100 scientists who do research on a technological fusion of multifunctional light-weight structures.
